police scanner
TG3602006 asked:

I could not find a catagory for this but i bought a police scanner a while ago and tuned into the local police agencys. sometimes i will hear the dispatch calling out to a officer and vice versa but most of the time it will scan and all of a sudden catch 2 officers in the middle of a conversation and then go back to scanning and then stop at a freq where it another set of officers and ending their conversation and its like i just totaly missed out on whats going on. I have no idea what “Trunked” means but tried to look it up and thought this might have something to do with it. If so, could someone explain to me exactly what it is and how it works and then if its possible for me to somehow catch all the action that im missing out on ?

police scanner
hderek09 asked:

I have had my Radio Shack Pro-95 Police Scanner for about 3 years… if you know about scanners you know that you choose channels you want to scan.. for example my scanner is programmed for my county and has 8 channels for different departments… well i chose for it to scan channel 1, 2, 4, and 6, but it will NEVER scan channel 2 anymore. It jumps right over it and will not even scan channel 2. Please help me figure out how to unlock channel two or whatever I need to do to get that channel working. THANKS!!!

Police Scanner Radius?

sonof106 asked:

I want a cheaper police scanner (under $200) that can get a city’s frequency from about 20 miles away. I am aware I may have to but a booster, but can anyone suggest a good scanner with those capabilities?

police scanner
Adam M asked:

I have listened to radio/police scanners for the longest time now. I have listened from anything to police/fire/ems and local buses to my actual college’s security.

I am a member of many local scanning forums for my area and surrounding areas and a member of RadioReference, which in the radio scanning community, considered the meeting place for scanner listeners.

So I’ve always assume, that radio scanner listeners are not bad people. I’ve even met law enforcement officers, fire, and EMS workers that have even joined in listening to other agencies.

Lately, I’ve been running in to a lot of people (civilians), who say that scanner listeners are just noisy people listening to information that is no concern to them. I even met one ex-police officer that said the information, especially on the EMS, is of no concern to anyone, and that listeners cause problems, yet I catch him with a scanner now, LoL.

So how do you feel? Are we scanner listeners actually good people or trouble?
I don’t really listen and be like yay, this person is in trouble. I just am amazed at how easily or maybe hard emergency services get people to safety.

On 9/11 it was interesting to see how hard the workers worked, but it sucks how bad their communication was.
