gltrok asked:
Just bought a new hand held scanner. We cannot get any reception. What are the normal ranges of reception ? We only live about 5 miles from our local EMS and Police, but never hear anything. We found the frequency online and have programmed it into the scanner. Should we buy a better antennae ? Thanks

I just got a police scanner and have been listening a good 3 hours a day. I’m a bit confused because 9 out of 10 times the police officers are reporting to someone named Roger. This is not just in one town either as I have a few towns programmed in the scanner. Is Roger the chief of my state police? How can one person possibly have enough time to listen to every police communication of multiple towns?

I was using my CB radio and I was keyed on the low side of a channel and when I keyed I noticed that one channel on my police scanner nearby would start blaring sound that sounded much like a tv show. I searched through my tv and found the exact channnel that was coming across my scanner from a channel out of a town just about 30 miles from me. But the only time this happened was on one particular frequency channel on the police scanner and when I keyed up my cb on the low side band of a certain channel. What can cause this kind of bleed over? I have never heard of something like this happening. i even thought I was gaining bleedover form the tv, so I shut it off and even with the tv off I was still hearing this television program audio over my scanner. How do you explain this?
Frequency was low side of channel 18 ( 26.753 i believe) and the frequency of the police scanner that I wasgetting bleedover from was 159.015. And these 2 antennas are right next to each other. In fact the beam.s on the scanner antenna are just a few inches from touching the 18 foot vertical cb antenna
